Maui Resilience Partnership
Working together to restore the land, protect our communities, and build a more resilient Maui.
Who We Are
We are a local partnership rooted in Hawaiʻi, led by community organizations, cultural practitioners, scientists, and land stewards.
We bring together local knowledge, science, and shared values to care for the land and protect the people who live here. We work together because no single group can do this alone – but together, we can create real change.

What We Do
The Maui Resilience Collective is a group of seven Hawai‘i-based organizations working to restore 66,000 acres of forest and watershed, reduce wildfire risk in fire prone areas, and support Maui’s recovery and long-term resilience.
This includes:
- Integrated / cross-sectoral approaches encompassing regenerative agriculture and traditional farming practices, native forest preservation and restoration, and wildfire
- mitigation solutions for the built environment
- Planting native trees and protecting healthy watersheds
- Managing fast-spreading invasive species, building firebreaks, and managing fuel loads
- Supporting neighborhood wildfire readiness through education, outreach, and awareness
- Working with local and state leaders to strengthen fire mitigation and response capacity and secure long-term investment in this work
- Creating leadership pathways for next-generation land stewards and policymakers
- Catalyzing investment in community-driven approaches to improved land management through sustainable agricultural practices and local food production
- Measuring program impacts to ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment with community priorities
Why We're Here
Wildfires in Hawai‘i are becoming more frequent, more dangerous, and more destructive. The August 2023 wildfires were a wake-up call, showing how fast these threats can escalate and how deeply they impact people, land, and culture.
These fires are fueled by a mix of vegetation in unmanaged lands, drought, and strong winds. Most start near where people live – and spread fast into dry forest.
We’re at a turning point: Disaster has opened the door to rebuild Maui in a way that protects people, strengthens communities while reflecting their values, and prepares us for what’s next.
What We Believe
We believe in a future where Maui is strong, thriving, and rooted in mālama ʻāina.
We believe resilience is built from the ground up, through care for land, culture, and community.
We believe wildfire resilience depends on restoring ecosystems, supporting communities, and honoring the knowledge that lives in this place.
We believe that by working together, we can protect what matters most – now and for generations to come.
We believe in measuring what matters to local communities — because shared transparency and accountability strengthen trust, ownership, and impact.
