Sustainability Business Forum Manager

Location: Honolulu, Hawaiʻi


A Sustainability Business Forum Manager will provide strategic leadership and coordination of the Sustainability Business Forum (SBF) to advance the group’s environmental, social, and economic priorities aligned with the Aloha+ Challenge – Hawai‘i’s local framework to achieve the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and focuses on strategically building, maintaining, and overseeing the SBF and its initiatives.


You should be a self-starter who builds partnerships within and beyond the Hawai‘i Green Growth (HGG) network and SBF to strategically facilitate public-private partnerships on climate and community resilience, corporate sustainability, sustainable tourism, nature-based solutions and payment for ecosystem services. You should work well in team environments with a strong foundation in building partnerships and a deeper understanding on topics around corporate sustainability and interrelated sustainability goals. Experience coordinating and organizing meetings and engagements is highly desired.


Ideal candidates will have:

  • Five to seven (5-7) years of work experience in business or non-profit organization, which includes responsibilities in partner engagement and coordination, strategic planning, and project management;
  • Knowledge of sustainability priorities in Hawaiʻi, and have experience working on corporate sustainability programs and policies in island contexts;
  • Knowledge of implementing complex and multi-faceted initiatives and projects that require extensive coordination of business, philanthropic, civil-society, community, academic, and government stakeholders at the local, State, Federal, and global level;
  • Familiarity with internationally recognized ESG frameworks, including Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD);
  • Event planning and coordination skills, with a close attention to detail and excellent relationship management

Rainwater Assessment Internship

Location: Honolulu, Hawaiʻi

Type: Paid Internship at $18/hour (approx 20-40 hrs/week)

Remote Work Option: Hybrid: Field work, work from home, and in office

Internship Period: May 2024 - August 2024 with opportunities to extend


Follow the Drop

Interns will spend about half their time working outdoors engaging with homeowners and community members while using proprietary technology to conduct rainwater assessments. These data will identify appropriate green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) such as rain gardens or catchment systems. The purpose of this project is to recharge aquifers and to mitigate flooding and the flow of brown water into the ocean. The other half of interns’ time will be spent working with the HGG team on data-related projects from GIS mapping and data visualization to story mapping and reporting. Interns will have the opportunity to apply systems thinking by contributing to the health and resilience of the ahupuaʻa through ʻāina (land) and moana (ocean) stewardship.

Qualifications

  • Must be in good academic standing; a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Google Suite, Microsoft Suite
  • Availability on Saturdays and early evening hours to meet with property owners (with guidance by senior team members)

Local-Global Communications and Outreach VISTA

This is a full-time position that will support Hawai‘i Green Growth’s work as a UN Local2030 Hub through communications, partner and community engagement, and outreach on local and global sustainability goals. The VISTA will build long-term capacity for partner communications, community engagement and outreach, and new organizational systems to amplify impact, and develop legacy resources to facilitate on-going action on the Aloha+ Challenge.


The Local-Global Communications and Outreach AmeriCorps VISTA position is structured to provide significant work experience in the areas of sustainable development, policy, communications, and outreach through hands-on experiential learning. This position will have the opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility quickly, and engage with a diverse network of local, national and international partners.


This position will work extensively with a wide range of government, business, academic, philanthropic, and community partners who work to advance social, economic, and environmental priorities across Hawaiʻi and is therefore ideally suited for applicants seeking to gain professional experience in these sectors.

The SBF is a voluntary CEO-led peer-to-peer initiative that supports candid dialogue and concrete action to achieve Hawai‘i’s Aloha+ Challenge and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) grounded in island values. 26 diverse businesses are represented in the SBF, including airlines, financial institutions, tourism operators, and agriculture operations, among others. Collectively, SBF members represent over $9 billion in revenue and more than 2,000 employees. These businesses have committed to driving action towards achieving the Aloha+ Challenge and holding their businesses accountable on the Aloha+ Dashboard. The Aloha+ Dashboard is an open data platform that tracks locally and culturally appropriate metrics to measure Hawaiʻi’s progress on its statewide 2030 goals on climate change, education, economy, energy, food, waste, natural resources, and community resilience.
