The Aloha+ Challenge builds on island culture and values and is Hawai‘i’s locally-driven framework to implement the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. We work to accelerate the Aloha+ Challenge and scale local solutions to build a more resilient and sustainable future for Island Earth.
The Aloha+ Challenge is Hawai‘i’s statewide commitment to achieve 2030 sustainability goals, and is a locally driven framework to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Consisting of six sustainability goals for Hawaiʻi to achieve by the year 2030, the Aloha+ Challenge provides a holistic approach to solutions grounded in Hawaiʻi’s local culture, values, and legacy of systems thinking.
Hawaiʻi Green Growth tracks Hawaiʻi’s progress in achieving its sustainability goals through the Aloha+ Challenge Dashboard. The targets and indicators on the Dashboard were chosen through a multi-year collaborative process based on what communities across Hawaiʻi value and what is appropriate to measure. The dashboard lives on the Hawaiʻi State Government’s website and is an open data platform designed to inform policy and inspire action.
Hawaiʻi Green Growth is a public-private partnership that brings together diverse stakeholders across Hawaiʻi from local and state government, private sector and civil society. As a statewide cross-sector network, HGG members jointly set priorities for collaborative action to advance green growth priorities and the Aloha+ Challenge.
In 2015, the United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals for the world to reach by 2030. In recognition of Hawaiʻi’s early leadership and local framework for delivering on global goals, the United Nations invited Hawaiʻi Green Growth to become one of the world’s first Local2030 sustainability hubs – and the first Island and Pacific hub- to scale Hawaiʻi’s sustainability model with the world.
