HGG Hosts UN Environment Assembly Regional Consultation

The Hawaiʻi Green Growth Local2030 Hub hosted a regional consultation in advance of the 4th United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-4), the worldʻs highest decision-making body on the environment. The hub was invited to provide Hawaiʻi’s perspective on solutions across the energy, water, food and waste nexus to inform the policy agenda for the UNEA-4 taking place this month in Nairobi, Kenya.

Hawaiʻi experts joined hubs from across North America during a two hour session discussing the theme of Innovations for Addressing the Single-Use Plastics Challenge. The final report incorporates Hawaiʻi’s recommendations along with topics discussed by approximately 20 hubs throughout the U.S. and Canada. Recommendations included private sector solutions, government bans, education, and resource development.
